Basic Kidney Screen
The kidneys filter your blood and remove waste products that form from the breakdown of normal cell activity in the body. They regulate the body’s pH and the level of electrolytes which are essential for the body to function correctly, maintaining fluid balance and regulating pH.
Our renal test will check your sodium levels. Two waste products produced by the kidneys, creatinine and urea will also be checked. High levels of these chemicals may suggest kidney disease, damage or failure or be the result of dehydration.
The amount of blood filtered by the glomeruli in the kidneys known as the estimate glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is calculated from the creatinine test result and shows how well your kidneys are filtering your blood.
